You Can Be Free from Your Insecurities

We live in an insecure world, and social media feeds it.

Everywhere we look, there is someone who is smarter, more successful, younger, or funnier than us. When we look outwardly at others and use them as a measuring stick, we tend to feel less-than.

But Jesus reminds us of our preciousness. “What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows” (Matthew 10:29-31).

The good Lord created us utterly extraordinary, with desires, bodies, talents, and hopes that, combined, are truly one in ten billion.

There is no other you.

And 100 percent you are 100 percent loved by the One who takes care of ordinary sparrows.

It’s often easier to turn anywhere but the embrace of God. Why? Because He seems far away, and we need comfort right now.

Our insecure hearts find solace in control, substances, addictions, escapes, doom-scrolling or show-binging. There is a supreme difference between the kind of “rest” that numbs us and the kind that renews us.

One places a bandage on an open, seeping wound; the other finds the root cause and brings soul rest.

Our God who loves the sparrows loves to become our security, the place we run when we’re overworked, overwhelmed, and overlooked.
When life swirls out of control and storms threaten, our God can become the shelter we need.

Because He made us to be in relationship with Him, He wants to hear from us. Yes, He already knows what we are wrestling with in the middle of the night, awake and afraid, but just like a parent wants to hear the thoughts of their child, God wants to interact with us about how we’re feeling.

To share your insecurity is to bless God with the gift of relationship—it shows Him you love Him enough to talk to Him.

Let us pray together: Jesus, I surrender security to you. Or maybe better said, I give you my insecurity and my chasing of that which seems secure. You are my source of refuge. You are eternal. You never change. Your words stand. Secure my heart to Yours. Attach me to you, Jesus. Amen.
